Why Printed Custom Circuit Board Has Become Popular

By Alba Durham

The industry of electronics have changed over time as technology becomes more advanced. Nowadays, most electronic manufacturers are offering printed circuit boards as opposed to a typical breadboard. This ushers in an easier and more efficient assembly, which is ideal for high-volume productions. The custom circuit board is used to support and connect a material's electrical parts mechanically.

Breadboard layout and design were once exclusive to large manufacturers only because of the expenses that it entails. Thanks to the latest innovation of printing the custom boards, this has now become attainable by small-time electronic builders or hobbyists. It is much easier to organize messy prototypes to a neat, durable and professional-looking board nowadays.

The primary reasons for the increasing popularity of PCBs are its flexibility in size, cost-efficiency and ability to hold up better even during adverse conditions. Whether in large or small-scale manufacturing, this is a viable option to consider. These are extremely useful especially when creating the prototype designs.

Most of the time, it is the size of the breadboard that determines the circuit size. Typically, the boards are designed to be reused, so cutting them is not common. Thus, the board comes in various sizes that are retained. Meanwhile, the customized boards only have one specific size to suit the circuits' pattern perfectly. Odd-shaped breadboard is a common sight in making custom boards.

The durability of PCBs are superior as well. The copper conductors are securely bonded on the board. Thus, it does not easily come loose compared to a point-to-point wiring, which is not resistant to strong vibrations. The components of a printed circuit is typically soldered in, too. This contributes to the board's durability. Custom breadboards are more likely to last long with heavy usage.

Furthermore, the printed boards are cost-effective. Whether producing them in small or large scales, it costs less to fabricate PCB than hand-building a specific prototype. More so when it deals with larger quantities. The latest update in the PC software being used today also make it possible to send layouts to a manufacturing shop for production right then and there. This helps saves time and cost in the process.

Moreover, the appearance of printed CBs are far tidier. Since the circuits are designed in a software, it is the program that arranges the components. This can improve the system's performance even more while keeping its appearance neat and tidy. The parts are evenly spaced and the traces are all uniform and symmetrical.

This also eradicates the need for point-to-point wiring. Thus, the breadboard becomes sleeker, less complicated and more professional-looking. This makes the boards more flexible while incorporating permanence to avoid knocking out wires, especially during project keeping. As a side-note, silk-screened artwork or text may also be added to the boards.

Overall, many would agree that the printed custom circuit board is the ultimate solution for many challenges and shortcomings that other boards face. At present, anybody can produce a professional PCB that does not cost much. This is not as complicated or as time-consuming as other methods, but it provides the same superior efficiency in functionality.
