Is the Excite 10 SE the Ultimate Budget Tablet?

Toshiba Excite 10 SE is recently introduced tab in the technology market. It is said to be a budget range tablet measuring 10-inch and powered with Android OS. Let us find out more about it and discover its worth.

Specifications

The Excite 10 SE or, the AT305SE is an overall plastic finish body as against its predecessor that sported aluminum finish. Nonetheless, this is what cuts off the extra weight too. It is powered with Tegra 3 processor and a slot for microSD card. Other things remain the same as its earlier version. However, you might be disappointed not to find any HDMI port. The pricing of this tablet is $349 this makes it pricier against Asus Memo with a similar processor. Another thing that you might notice is that it is powered with Android 4.1.1 OS version.

Design and Hardware

Weighing at 1.4 pounds this tablet seems appropriate, all thanks to its plastic finish that contributes in shedding extra baggage. However, you will still find it thicker as against other tablets. The color tone of this tablet is rosy silver; the backside is dotted and textured. The front of the tablet, the screen is a glossy plastic.

This way it seems more like a budget friendly tablet. As far as the portability factor goes it can easily fit in your handbag or into a small carry bag.

The Excite 10 SE is powered with a Nvidia Tegra 3 processor that is clocked at 1.6GHz that supports the 1GB RAM. You might feel a bit short changed at the internal memory with 16GB storage. Other things include a Bluetooth with 3.0 version, 2.0 USB port, GPS, Gyroscope, 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity, accelerometer, light sensor and a digital inbuilt compass.

The resolution of this 10.1-inch measuring tab is 1,280x800-pixel-resolution that is capable of displaying content in comfortable light conditions. However, if you tilt the tablet a bit then you will discover light bleed that makes it look shabby. No wonder why the resolution is no longer in use by Kindle Fire and Nexus 10.

The bottom edge sports stereo speakers that are capable of producing SRS audio. However, you might feel disappointed at the audio quality that is not as impressive as is expected from a brand like Toshiba. The volume is low and so is the quality a bit below standard.

The Excite sports dual cameras. The front camera has a resolution of 1.2 MP and a rear end camera comes with mere 2 MP. This does seem to be a bit downgrade as the current trend is that of 2PM for front facing camera and at least 3-5 MP for back camera. Even the video capture quality is not impressive with 720p only. Other things are standard inputs for rear camera including LED flash, autofocus and digital zoom.

Performance Software and Battery

As far as the processor goes, Nvidia Tegra 3 processor is not new to the technology addition and so is the Android 4.1 version. This translates to less than perfect user experience when it comes to browsing and performing other tasks. If you attempt to play Dead Trigger you might not be disappointed, probably the reason being it is Tegra optimized.

The apps included by Toshiba are just a few essentials like, a media player, App Place and App Store. Additionally, file manager is good for managing your all file types well.

The battery power of Excite 10 SE is satisfactory. If you continuously stream a video it will last for about 7 hours and 55 minutes.

Conclusion

There are not too many best features in Toshiba Excite 10 SE but you will find a few impressive ones like, portability and lightweight factor. These are just the basic features that are essential in a tablet. Other things include budget range features like file manager, app store, pre-loaded game and media player are a pre requisite that are met.

The drawbacks seem to be that it lacks features and technology of hi-end. The glass should have been gorilla glass instead of some plastic like finish. The overall design is not impressive at all as it exudes the feeling of owning a below average product. The camera and audio quality too are not up to the mark. All this as against the pricing seems to be falling short of standards.
